The east end is Carlton Beach (the west end is referred to as Park Beach). Close parking but may become limited on good days (sun or surf). Can be accessed along it’s length by means of walkways from Carlton Beach Road (100-200m).

The east has has amenities and is patrolled. A good beach to learn surfing and boarding when patrolled.

At the far east end of the beach is the Carlton Rivermouth which is known for its surf break but not recommended for swimming due to strong currents.

Named by a whaler in 1806 the word Carlton means ‘free peasant settlement’.

Connellys Beach

Not far from Carlton this is an unknown secluded beach that few people know about. Enter via Beach Road and head left. The beach is a 100 m walk but well worth it. Note the interesting flora walking in.

Connellys Beach is also referred to and is part of Connellys Marsh and Connellys Bay.

A long secluded beach in a beautiful area on the east coast of Tasmania. Minor surf sometimes and fishing from the beach or creek behind the beach.

Access to the beach is a 100 – 200 m walk from the car park. Basic amenities include toilets.

The north end has 5 more beaches – Woody, Eagles, Shelly, Pine Creek and Bluff beaches – all have limited access mainly from tracks.

Parallel to the beach is Bream Creek which sometimes joins up with the sea. The beach is accessed via Marion Bay Road.

Named after a French explorer Marion du Fresne, a ship captain who explored in 1772. Views of Maria Island to the northeast and a small island called Visscher Island to the southeast. A well-known surf break on the southern end called ‘Boneyard’ is considered one of Australia’s best right-handers when working.

A protected beach in Dodges Ferry. The south end is great for kids to explore magical rock pools containing all sorts of sea life.

Interesting rock formations and a shallow beach make it great to learn snorkelling. I have spent many hours with my children exploring the beach and rocks.

Named after Ernest Okines who leased the property in 1923 and purchased in 1942. Views of Seven Mile Beach often with spectacular sunsets.

Park Beach is near Dodges Ferry in southeast Tasmania and is the western end of Carlton Beach.

A popular surf beach close to Hobart that offers a range of surf conditions.

Historically, it was a patrolled beach with a surf club, but it appears – no more. The east end is still patrolled.

Ideal for surfers, board riders, body surfers and boogie boards. Smaller surf conditions are good for beginners.

Near Carlton, a beautiful sweeping beach usually well protected and quiet. Best access is on the bottom (south-east) end with other limited access along it’s shore.

Toilets on the south-east end next to the skate ramp about 200m from beach. Shop nearby. Great views of Mt Kunanyi and the island ‘Isle of Caves’.
